A STANDARDIZED APPROACH TO RUNNING

Assess Running Mechanics with Defined Criteria

Running is a repeatable movement skill. Pose Method provides a defined model of running with consistent criteria for identifying technical errors, determining what needs to be corrected, and reassessing the result.
This course includes:
  • Pre-recorded lectures and teaching sessions with Dr. Nicholas Romanov
  • Concept and biomechanics lessons
  • Step-by-step running assessment instruction
  • Corrective drills and teaching progressions
  • Practical running-session protocols
  • Video analysis instruction
  • Warm-up and movement-preparation routines
A STANDARD TOOL FOR INDIVIDUAL CARE

The Mechanics Provide the Standard. You Provide the Clinical Judgment.

Physical therapists already use standardized tests, measures, and assessment procedures throughout clinical practice. These tools create a consistent foundation while the clinician determines what the findings mean for the individual patient.

Pose Method applies the same logic to running. The model and assessment criteria remain consistent. Your expertise determines how those findings fit the runner’s history, symptoms, capacity, goals, and broader clinical presentation.

A standard process also makes the running component more efficient to assess, leaving more time and attention for the patient-specific work that requires your expertise.

CLINICAL EVIDENCE

When Running Mechanics Change, Clinical Outcomes Can Change

This study followed military patients with chronic exertional compartment syndrome through a six-week running retraining intervention based on Pose Method principles.

The video below shows pre- and post-intervention changes in running mechanics from study participants.
36% Reduction in Compartment Pressure
43% Increase in Running Distance
Reduced Pain + Improved Function

The intervention altered the running mechanics repeatedly loading the lower leg. As the mechanical input changed, compartment pressure decreased, symptoms declined, and function improved.

WHY RUNNING CORRECTION MATTERS

Change the Movement That Keeps Recreating the Problem

When the movement that repeatedly loads the body is corrected, the damaging mechanical input can be reduced enough for recovery to occur.

Strength, mobility, tissue capacity, and conditioning all matter in rehabilitation. But when a patient returns to running, the running mechanics themselves become part of the loading environment again.

A defined running model gives the clinician a consistent way to identify and correct the mechanical errors that continue to reproduce stress during running.
PRACTICAL VALUE IN THE CLINIC

Add a Repeatable Running Assessment Process to Your Toolkit

The system gives you a consistent way to assess and correct running without rebuilding the process from one patient to the next.

Use it to assess running more efficiently, identify technical errors with clear criteria, select corrections without rebuilding the process each time, and give patients a more concrete explanation of what needs to change.

It also gives you a structured way to integrate running retraining into return-to-running care, sports rehabilitation, and services for military and tactical populations.

The standard process handles the repeatable part. Your clinical expertise stays focused on the individual patient.
PROFESSIONAL POSITIONING

A Running System Already Used in Military Settings

Pose Method® of Running has been applied in U.S. military training and return-to-duty environments since 2007, where running performance and lower-extremity injury are persistent operational concerns.

For military physical therapists, familiarity with a system already used in these settings adds practical relevance to running assessment and retraining.

For civilian clinicians, it can strengthen services for active-duty personnel, Guard and Reserve members, veterans, tactical athletes, and communities surrounding military installations.

PTs who already understand a running system familiar within military training and rehabilitation environments are better positioned to serve that population as attention to running mechanics and retraining continues to grow.
