Looking for Continuing Education You Can Use With Runners?
May 10
North Carolina Physical Therapists must document 30 continuing competence points during each 25-month reporting period. Physical Therapist Assistants must document 20 points. All PT and PTA licensees must also complete a jurisprudence exercise worth 1 point during the reporting period.
North Carolina PT and PTA Requirements
North Carolina uses a continuing competence system rather than relying only on traditional continuing education hours.
Current requirements are:
-
Physical Therapists: 30 points
-
Physical Therapist Assistants: 20 points
-
Jurisprudence Exercise: 1 required point for all licensees
The reporting period is 25 months. Licensees can confirm their assigned reporting period through the Board’s online continuing competence reporting system.
Pose Method® of Running: A Master Course on Running is approved for 10 continuing education points for Physical Therapists and PTAs in North Carolina.
How Online Continuing Education Is Counted
North Carolina assigns different limits depending on the type of activity.
For an approved non-interactive electronic course completed on demand, 1 contact hour equals 1 point, with a maximum of 10 points per reporting period. The Board applies the same 10-point maximum to approved-provider home-study programs.
Pose Method® of Running is a 20-hour online professional course in running assessment, correction, and retraining. Under North Carolina’s limits for this type of online activity, the course may be used for up to 10 continuing competence points in a reporting period.
Course Approval in North Carolina
North Carolina recognizes several approval pathways. Courses approved by a state chapter or section of APTA, FSBPT, IACET, or a state physical therapy licensure board in the United States or Canada are considered approved without a separate North Carolina application.
The Board also notes that its own published course list is not comprehensive. A course may qualify even if it does not appear on that list.
Looking for Continuing Education You Can Use With Runners?
Pose Method® of Running provides a repeatable system for running assessment, correction, video analysis, and retraining.
For North Carolina licensees, the 20-hour course may be applied for up to 10 continuing competence points under the state’s limits for online continuing education activities.
