Rhode Island Physical Therapy CE Requirements for the 2026–2028 Renewal Cycle
May 1
Rhode Island physical therapists and physical therapist assistants need 24 hours of continuing education for biennial license renewal.
The current cycle ends April 30, 2028.
Rhode Island permits online and self-study continuing education, with one CE hour awarded for each hour completed.
What Counts as Physical Therapy CE in Rhode Island?
Continuing education must be related to the scope of physical therapy practice.
Rhode Island also recognizes courses that have been presented, accepted, or approved by other state licensing boards of physical therapy.
That means PTs and PTAs are not limited to courses separately approved in Rhode Island.
Looking for CE You Can Use With Runners?
If you work with runners, continuing education can also give you a practical system you can use in the clinic.
The Pose Method® of Running: A Master Course on Running teaches a structured process for:
-
observing running technique
-
identifying technical errors
-
using video as part of assessment
-
selecting appropriate corrections
-
applying drills and cues
-
retraining running action
-
reassessing technique
Rather than focusing only on isolated gait variables, the course gives clinicians a repeatable framework for assessing and correcting running technique.
Earn 20 Hours of Rhode Island Physical Therapy CE
The Pose Method® of Running: A Master Course on Running provides 20 contact hours of continuing education.
The course is approved by the Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners. Rhode Island recognizes courses approved by other state physical therapy licensing boards, allowing the course to qualify under Rhode Island's continuing education rules.
The course can therefore account for 20 of the 24 hours required for Rhode Island PT and PTA renewal.
Running is also an important physical requirement in military populations. The Pose Method® of Running has been used in U.S. military training and return-to-duty environments since 2007, making the course especially relevant for clinicians who work with service members as well as recreational and competitive runners.
