Idaho Physical Therapy License Renewal Changes in 2026

Jan 1
Idaho is transitioning Physical Therapist and Physical Therapist Assistant licenses from annual renewal to a two-year renewal cycle.

The transition began in October 2025 and continues in 2026. Physical therapy licensees born in an even-numbered year move to the two-year cycle when they renew in 2026.

What Changes in 2026?

Licensees born in an even-numbered year received a one-year renewal in 2025 and transition to a two-year license beginning with their 2026 renewal.

Once a license moves to the biennial cycle, the renewal fee covers two years instead of one.

What Happens to Continuing Education?

The continuing education requirement does not increase because of the new renewal cycle.

Idaho Physical Therapists and Physical Therapist Assistants must continue to complete 32 contact hours of continuing education every two years.

That makes the new renewal structure a useful time to plan continuing education across the full two-year period rather than waiting until renewal approaches.

Use Your CE Hours to Add a Running Assessment Tool

Pose Method® of Running: A Master Course on Running provides 20 hours of online professional education in running assessment, correction, video analysis, and retraining.

For Idaho PTs and PTAs, the course can provide 20 of the 32 continuing education hours required during a two-year period.

For clinicians who work with runners, athletes, return-to-running patients, military personnel, or tactical populations, those CE hours can also add a repeatable running assessment and retraining system to clinical practice.
